The Motion Design/Media Industry Essentials is an
9-week beginner-friendly online course that teaches the fundamentals of motion graphics and storytelling through animation.

You’ll work with shape layers, type, audio syncing, and scenes then wrap up with a final branded motion piece ready for your portfolio.

Week 1

3 Chapter

Introduction to Motion Design

Objective: Understand the core ideas behind motion graphics and get started with After Effects.
Topics Covered:

  • Working with compositions and timelines

Assignment: Animate a simple wordmark or logo using timing and easing principles.

Objective: Explore how animated type can convey tone, emotion, and clarity.

  • Kinetic type and visual rhythm

Assignment: Create a short text animation using a quote or phrase, emphasizing motion and clarity.

Week 3

3 Chapter

Shape Layers & Abstract Animation

Objective: Use shape layers to build abstract and engaging designs.
Topics Covered:

  • Creating and animating shapes in After Effects

  • Masks, mattes, and blending modes

  • Graph editor and easing functions

  • Loops, transitions, and visual rhythm

Assignment: Build a 5–10 second looping abstract animation using only basic shapes and motion.

Week 4

3 Chapter

Branding & Motion Graphics

Objective: Learn to design and animate branding assets for motion.
Topics Covered:

  • Logo animation fundamentals

  • Creating motion systems that reflect brand style

  • Social media formats and advertising specs

  • Building motion kits (intros, lower thirds, overlays)

Assignment: Animate a brand logo and create 2–3 reusable motion assets.

Week 5

3 Chapter

Audio Sync & Visual Rhythm

Objective: Learn to sync animations with music or voice for impact and timing.
Topics Covered:

  • Working with waveforms and audio layers

  • Syncing keyframes to beats or dialogue

  • Using sound to guide visual pacing

  • Sound effects and mood

Assignment: Design a 15-second teaser synced to an audio track.

Week 6

3 Chapter

Character & Scene Animation (Intro)

Objective: Animate simple characters and build narrative-driven scenes.
Topics Covered:

  • Intro to puppet tools and simple rigs

  • Animating limbs, heads, and body movement

  • Scene transitions and visual storytelling

  • Creating continuity and flow

Final Project:
